Who among us doesn’t want beautiful and radiant facial skin? Fortunately, taking care of your beauty doesn’t always mean spending large sums on beauty treatments at a salon. Some of these treatments can be done without leaving home, at a time that’s convenient for you. However, there are certain cosmetic treatments that we firmly say – no to doing on your own!
The face is our calling card, which, unlike other parts of the body, we cannot hide.
In addition to our eyes and lips, our skin also shows how we perceive the world around us and how we react to it. That’s why it’s so important to show it respect and take the appropriate steps to bring out its natural beauty. The condition of our skin is influenced by genetics, environmental factors, and age. Its aging process is accelerated primarily by an unhealthy lifestyle (poor diet, addictions, stress) and UV radiation.
Taking care of facial skin should therefore become a habit, just like brushing your teeth or combing your hair. This is the only way to guarantee that your skin will maintain a healthy and youthful appearance for many years. The most important part of daily skincare is cleansing the face, which makes the skin smooth, firm, and elastic. This process should begin with eye makeup removal and skin cleansing (using makeup remover or micellar water). After cleansing, the skin loses its proper pH, so to restore it, a toner should be applied.
Once or twice a week, it’s good to remove dead skin cells. You should perform an enzymatic or granular scrub, which allows the skin to absorb and utilize other products such as masks or creams. However, it’s important to note that sensitive or couperose skin doesn’t tolerate scrubs with large abrasive particles; an enzymatic scrub works much better in such cases. Next, to nourish and hydrate the skin, you can apply a mask, followed by serum and cream. A natural way to maintain youthful skin is facial gymnastics (face fitness). Regular exercises give surprising results – they improve the face’s oval, reduce wrinkles, and eliminate puffiness under the eyes.
To maintain youthful skin, it is essential to focus on daily care with products available in drugstores and pharmacies, or by using their natural alternatives.
However, there are situations where at-home cosmetic treatments may not be enough. In these cases, it’s worth seeking professional cosmetic treatments and aesthetic medicine procedures. A visit to a specialist is particularly recommended for deep wrinkles or intense skin discolorations. It’s also a good solution if someone wants to test a new product or establish their home skincare routine. Only a cosmetologist or aesthetic medicine doctor, with the proper qualifications and years of experience, can find the best solution.
Recently, there has been a wide variety of devices for cosmetic treatments available online, which can be used at home. However, these should never be used without the appropriate knowledge and experience. Every cosmetic treatment has numerous contraindications, and performing it incorrectly can lead to very serious consequences. Here are some cosmetic treatments that are better not to perform at home:
Facial treatments with acids – Acids are an effective solution for common skin problems like discoloration, wrinkles, acne, minor scars, or blackheads. However, it is recommended to use them only in a professional setting.
Ultrasonic facial– Clean skin is the foundation of a healthy appearance. Traditional face cleansing with micellar water or gel is insufficient to combat excess sebum clogging pores. Cavitation peeling thoroughly removes impurities from the skin (even deeply embedded ones). When regularly performed by a cosmetologist, it supports cellular metabolism, accelerates collagen production, improves skin tone and firmness, and reduces wrinkles.
Diamond microdermabrasion – This treatment is sought after by people of all ages at cosmetic clinics. It involves the mechanical exfoliation of the skin using a diamond-tipped device (it can be performed on the face, back, and décolletage). This non-invasive micropeeling significantly improves circulation and the appearance of the skin, as well as removing imperfections. Results are visible after the first treatment.
Needle-free mesotherapy – An alternative to traditional needle-based mesotherapy, it involves deeply infusing nourishing substances into the skin in a completely safe and non-invasive way (this process does not damage the epidermis). As a result, the skin becomes visibly hydrated, firmed, and rejuvenated (wrinkles are significantly reduced), and uneven skin texture and stretch marks are diminished.
Galvanotherapy – To reduce skin imperfections such as scars or discoloration, try galvanotherapy. This treatment uses direct current to affect the tissues. It helps remove skin unevenness, lighten freckles or dark spots, and reduce the visibility of scars. Galvanotherapy also improves skin firmness and makes it cleaner and more nourished. Like all the previously mentioned treatments, it requires proper training and experience.
Some cosmetic treatments, especially those related to daily skin care, can be performed both in beauty salons and at home. This allows you to enjoy youthful, radiant, and well-maintained skin every day. However, it is important to remember that all home treatments only work on the surface level. Additionally, using home cosmetic devices can lead to serious consequences such as skin infections, scarring, or permanent skin damage. Therefore, these treatments should never be performed on your own at home!
In a beauty salon, in addition to a wide range of cosmetics with high concentrations of active ingredients, the cosmetologist uses professional devices that enhance the effects of individually tailored treatments. Importantly, before starting their career, a cosmetologist completes the necessary education and undergoes various training programs, which prepare them to perform treatments with the proper hygiene and care (gaining this knowledge cannot be achieved by simply reading articles or watching videos on YouTube).
What’s more, when treating skin imperfections such as discoloration or scars, it is important to identify their causes. The appearance of such changes may indicate issues not only with the skin but also with internal organs. A cosmetologist is also knowledgeable about contraindications and aftercare recommendations following treatments. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a specialist to get advice on proper facial skin care. Often, improper skincare is the reason for worsening skin condition.
At-home cosmetic treatments for the face can be a great complement to your daily skincare routine. However, conditions like acne, pigmentation, or scars cannot be treated effectively with home remedies alone. In such cases, it’s best to seek the services of a specialist who will not only determine the cause of these changes but also perform the necessary treatments and instruct you on how to care for your skin at home.
