Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an effective, non-surgical method for treating venous insufficiency.
The procedure involves injecting a special solution—known as a sclerosing agent—directly into the affected vein. This causes the vessel to close and gradually disappear. Sclerotherapy successfully treats both larger varicose veins (such as the great and small saphenous veins) and smaller vascular lesions, commonly referred to as spider veins.
It is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require hospitalization.

How to prepare

  • A prior consultation with a phlebologist is required. The doctor will assess your overall health and determine if you’re eligible for the procedure (treatment may be performed on the same day as the consultation).
  • The procedure can be performed no sooner than 3 weeks after completing antibiotic therapy.
  • If you’ve recently had an infection, the treatment can take place at least 2 weeks after all symptoms have resolved.
  • Please bring any relevant medical documentation, including information about chronic conditions, medications you’re taking, and previous procedures.

Is this tight for you?

Sclerotherapy is recommended for individuals experiencing:

  • early signs of venous insufficiency
  • varicose veins in the lower limbs
  • leg heaviness and swelling
  • recurring discomfort caused by varicose veins

The treatment is suitable for both women and men, and may also be performed as a preventive measure.

Treatment process

STEP I: Skin cleansing and disinfection
STEP II: Vein mapping under ultrasound guidance
STEP III: Injection of the sclerosing agent into the vessel
STEP IV: Application of dressings and compression stocking, followed by post-treatment instructions

Results

Sclerotherapy works by closing off diseased veins, leading to the gradual disappearance of varicose and spider veins. The treatment improves the appearance of the legs, reduces swelling and the sensation of heaviness, and helps slow the progression of chronic venous insufficiency. Results typically become noticeable after a few sessions, with full effects visible once the complete treatment series is finished.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Wear a compression stocking for up to 7 days, as advised by your doctor.
  • Avoid intense physical activity during the first few days after the procedure.
  • Hot baths and sauna use are not recommended for 4 weeks post-treatment.
  • Air travel should be avoided for at least 48 hours.
  • Take a short 10-minute walk immediately after the procedure.

Contraindications

The procedure is contraindicated for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Contraindications also include active deep vein thrombosis, allergies to the ingredients, and the presence of malignant diseases. The treatment should not be performed in cases of active infection.
