Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins for healthy, radiant skin. Unfortunately, the human body can’t produce it on its own, which means we must supply it through our diet and topical skincare products — especially those rich in L-ascorbic acid, the most bioavailable form of vitamin C.
Why L-ascorbic acid? Because only this left-handed (L-form) version of vitamin C is fully absorbable by the body. While most of the vitamin C from food is used to support internal organ function, very little reaches the skin. That’s why using skincare products enriched with high-quality, stable vitamin C is strongly recommended to target skin directly and effectively.
A deficiency in vitamin C almost always leads to weakened blood vessels, increased susceptibility to bruising, and a tendency toward bleeding and petechiae. That’s why vitamin C is a key ingredient in products formulated for sensitive, redness-prone, or rosacea-affected skin. It’s commonly used in creams and ointments for its anti-inflammatory properties, ability to speed up healing, and role in strengthening capillary walls. In skincare, vitamin C is best known for its anti-aging and protective effects. It stimulates collagen production, neutralizes free radicals, fades hyperpigmentation, and helps shield the skin from sun damage. In formulations with a lower pH (such as Retix C), it also acts as a mild exfoliant, helping to smooth and renew the skin.
Vitamin C is highly sensitive to external factors such as light and high temperatures. That’s why it’s important to store it at room temperature, in dark packaging, to maintain its stability and effectiveness. Vitamin C skincare products should be used within 3–4 months after opening, unless the manufacturer recommends a different (often shorter) timeframe. When choosing vitamin C products, keep in mind that effectiveness depends on the quality of the formula and the stability of the ingredients. Always look for high-grade formulations from trusted brands to ensure visible results.
Cosmetic brands are constantly competing to develop new skincare products and treatments enriched with vitamin C. Thanks to its exfoliating properties, it’s a key ingredient in many Anti-Aging treatments, such as the popular Retix C line of procedures and creams.
Retix C combines the power of vitamin C and retinol to brighten, deeply exfoliate, and smooth the skin. Treatments are typically performed every 28 days in a series of 3–4 sessions. For best results, it’s recommended to follow up with a dedicated at-home cream designed specifically for post-treatment care.
Another vitamin C–rich option is vitamin mesotherapy — a deeply hydrating, anti-wrinkle treatment that brightens skin tone and reduces dark circles under the eyes. It’s gentle, relaxing, and unlike many other vitamin C treatments, does not cause peeling. To enhance results, it’s best paired with Energy C cream and serum for home use.
Vitamin C also plays a major role in aesthetic medicine, particularly in microneedling mesotherapy cocktails, where it helps fade hyperpigmentation and smooth fine lines.
