Hyperpigmentation and dark spots

Skin discoloration, also known as pigmentation spots, refers to changes in skin tone caused by an overproduction of melanin. These changes can appear in many forms, from small specks to larger, more noticeable patches. There are several types of pigmentation. One of the most common is hyperpigmentation, such as sun spots that result from prolonged exposure to UV rays. Melasma is another form, often triggered by hormonal changes—particularly in pregnant women. Age spots, sometimes called liver spots, tend to appear later in life, especially on skin that’s been frequently exposed to the sun. Pigmentation issues can also be caused by skin trauma, including acne, injuries, or inflammation, as well as genetic predisposition. Fortunately, with today’s advanced treatments, it’s possible to effectively reduce unwanted pigmentation, restoring an even skin tone and a more youthful-looking complexion.
