Perineoplasty and vaginal reconstruction

Perineoplasty and vaginal vestibule reconstruction is a procedure within the field of aesthetic and regenerative gynecology. It is recommended for women who, following vaginal childbirth, perineal injury, or age-related changes, experience reduced tissue support and discomfort in the intimate area. Symptoms may include a sensation of vaginal “looseness,” decreased comfort during intercourse, a pulling sensation, excess tissue, or changes in the appearance of the intimate area.

The goal of the procedure is to restore the natural anatomy of the perineum and vaginal opening, improve tissue tightness, and enhance everyday comfort. During the procedure, the doctor removes excess skin and tissue, reshapes the treated area, and reconstructs the correct contours of the intimate area. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, takes approximately 90 minutes, and does not require hospitalisation – you can return home the same day.

How to prepare

  • Complete any tests ordered by your doctor approximately 2 weeks before the procedure.
  • Schedule the procedure according to your menstrual cycle – it cannot be performed during your period.
  • Inform your doctor before the procedure if you are taking blood-thinning medication and discuss in advance whether it can be temporarily discontinued.
  • Maintain thorough intimate hygiene and remove hair from the treatment area the day before the planned procedure.

Is this tight for you?

Perineoplasty and vaginal reconstruction may be a good option for women who:

  • struggle with a feeling of vaginal “looseness” or reduced tissue tightness;
  • experience discomfort after vaginal childbirth, a perineal tear, or an episiotomy;
  • notice excess skin or changes in the appearance of the intimate area;
  • experience discomfort or pain during intercourse;
  • want to correct congenital abnormalities of the intimate area that affect its appearance or everyday comfort.

Perineoplasty and vaginal reconstruction can be performed in women of any age, provided they are over 18 years old.

Treatment process

STAGE I: Consultation and Qualification for Treatment

STAGE II: The Procedure

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so the patient remains awake throughout. After preparing the treatment area, the doctor removes excess skin and subcutaneous tissue, reshapes the vaginal opening and perineum, and then places sutures.

STAGE III: Follow-Up Appointment Scheduling

Results

Perineoplasty and vaginal reconstruction can help to:

  • improve the tightness and appearance of the intimate area,
  • narrow the vaginal opening after childbirth or perineal injury,
  • reduce the feeling of vaginal “looseness” and the discomfort associated with it,
  • increase comfort during intercourse,
  • improve everyday comfort and quality of life,
  • reduce sensations of pulling and abnormal tissue tension,
  • relieve symptoms that occur after childbirth or perineal trauma,
  • restore greater self-confidence.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Post-procedure care: During the first few days after the procedure, it is recommended to apply cold compresses to the vulvar and perineal area. Maintain daily intimate hygiene and dry the area thoroughly after washing, preferably using a soft disposable towel.
  • Limit contact with water: During the healing period, avoid using swimming pools and do not soak the treated area for prolonged periods, for example in a bathtub.
  • Restrict physical activity and sexual intercourse: For approximately 4 weeks after the procedure, avoid intense physical activity and sexual intercourse.
  • Wound and scar care: Use only the wound and scar care products recommended by your doctor.
  • Monitor the treatment area: If you experience severe pain, bleeding, fever, or any other concerning symptoms, contact the clinic immediately.

quote

“Perineoplasty and vaginal reconstruction is not a procedure performed solely for aesthetic reasons. For many women, it means a real improvement in comfort, daily functioning, and quality of intimate life after childbirth or as a result of age-related changes.”

FAQ

  • The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during the treatment itself. For the first few days afterwards, tenderness, swelling, and discomfort may occur, but these symptoms gradually improve.

  • Scars after perineoplasty are located within the natural folds of the skin, so in most cases they become almost invisible within a few months. Their final appearance depends largely on proper wound care and following your doctor’s recommendations.

  • You can return home on the same day as the procedure, but rest is recommended for the first few days. Most women are able to return to office-based work after approximately 7–10 days, depending on how quickly the area heals.

  • The procedure does not affect fertility. If you are planning a pregnancy, tell your doctor during your consultation. It is recommended that any future vaginal delivery takes place only after the tissues have fully healed – usually at least 12 months after the procedure.

  • The results of perineoplasty are long-lasting. However, they may gradually diminish after future vaginal deliveries or due to age-related changes. Most women do not need to repeat the procedure for many years.
