Drooping eyelids no longer have to be a problem — modern cosmetology and aesthetic medicine offer a safe and effective solution. Discover what blepharoplasty is all about!
The structure of the eye is largely determined by genetics, but drooping eyelids are often linked to weakened facial muscles or damage to the oculomotor nerve. While sagging eyelids are a common sign of mature skin, they can affect people of all ages.
In most cases, drooping occurs due to a decrease in skin density caused by the loss of collagen fibers. It usually affects both eyelids, though in some cases it may appear on just one side. In more severe cases, sagging eyelids can even interfere with proper vision.
The skin around the eyes is the thinnest and most delicate on the entire face, which is why, until recently, the only effective method for rejuvenating this area was surgery. Surgical blepharoplasty involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids. The procedure typically takes 1 to 3 hours and requires a precise incision along the natural crease of the eyelid. During the surgery, the surgeon removes unwanted fat, a small portion of muscle, and any loose or sagging skin. The wound is then closed with very fine sutures to minimize scarring. While effective, the procedure comes with a longer recovery time, limits on daily activities during healing, and carries the usual risks associated with surgery, such as bruising, swelling, or complications related to anesthesia.
The beauty industry has been captivated by an innovative eye-area treatment — a plasma-based device that lifts the eyelids without the use of a scalpel.
This treatment delivers visible skin-rejuvenating results in a minimally invasive way — all without the need for a scalpel. It’s an excellent alternative to traditional surgical blepharoplasty. One of its standout benefits is the exceptionally short recovery time. The device is primarily used to address skin laxity, scar and stretch mark reduction, and wrinkle smoothing around the eyes, ears, and lips. INVICTA Anti-Aging Clinic is proud to be one of the few centers in the Tri-City area offering this cutting-edge solution. The procedure works by creating tiny microdots on the surface of the eyelid skin using a focused plasma beam generated by the device. Each microdot causes sublimation of the epidermis—that is, the upper skin layer evaporates—without damaging the deeper layers, without bleeding, and without harming the surrounding tissue. The entire treatment takes about 20 minutes, and the plasma dots, each less than 1 mm in diameter, typically remain visible for up to 10 days.
A single treatment around the eyes can deliver up to 30% of the final result, with most patients requiring 1 to 3 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart for optimal outcomes. While the procedure is minimally invasive, it’s important to note that visible redness and swelling in the treated area are normal and expected reactions. These symptoms typically subside within 3 to 5 days, and in most cases, daily activities can be resumed within 2 weeks. In treatments involving the upper eyelids, swelling can be more intense, potentially limiting daily activities for about 3 to 7 days following the procedure. After approximately 4 days, the skin begins to heal, and small scabs form at the points of contact with the plasma. These scabs usually fall off within 14 days. The total skin regeneration process takes about 6 to 8 weeks. After this time, the treatment can safely be repeated if necessary. It’s crucial to avoid sun exposure immediately after the procedure and to follow all aftercare instructions to support proper healing and achieve the best possible results.
