Botox: What you should know before your first treatment

Botox is by far the most popular aesthetic treatment, which is why we get questions about it almost every day — especially when it comes to results, expectations, and pre- and post-treatment guidelines.

Here are some of the most important things to know before your first appointment:

What you should know before the treatment

Botox” is the commonly used name for all products containing botulinum toxin type A (learn more in our article: What Is Botox?).
Botulinum toxin treatments for wrinkle correction are typically performed only on the forehead and around the eyes. Other areas of the face are better suited to fillers, such as hyaluronic acid.
The treatment works by partially relaxing facial muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles
Results appear within 14 days of the procedure
Effects typically last 4 to 6 months
Once the effects wear off, natural facial movement returns
Not recommended for pregnant women
Do not bend over or lie down for a few hours after the treatment
Avoid flying for 24 hours after the procedure
Avoid scheduling aesthetic or dental treatments on the same day as your Botox appointment
For a few days after the procedure, use sun protection and avoid saunas and swimming pools.
