Bruxism affects around 2% of the population and is considered one of the most common jaw-related movement disorders.
It involves the involuntary, forceful clenching of the teeth and grinding, often without the person realizing it.
The condition is typically accompanied by symptoms such as:
Teeth grinding usually occurs at night, during sleep, when the person is completely unaware of the activity.
At the Anti-Aging Clinic, bruxism is treated using botulinum toxin type A.
This neurotoxin works by blocking the release of acetylcholine from presynaptic vesicles at the neuromuscular junction. As a result, it inhibits the transmission of nerve impulses, leading to a temporary relaxation of the targeted muscles.
When administered in small, precise doses by a qualified doctor, botulinum toxin is injected into the jaw muscles to prevent involuntary clenching and teeth grinding.
The effects of the treatment typically last between 6 to 8 months.
The procedure takes around 40 minutes, and the results become visible within 14 days after the injection.
