Nail reconstruction is sometimes the only effective way to restore the appearance of toenails damaged by mechanical trauma. This treatment allows for the extension of the nail plate, protecting the sensitive skin underneath — which, once exposed due to nail loss, becomes vulnerable to further injury. Reconstruction is only possible if at least one-third of the natural nail plate remains intact.

Ideal for those dealing with injury-related nail damage, missing sections of the nail plate, or slowed nail growth.
A podiatrist reconstructs the missing part of the nail using a specialized gel or acrylic material.
The treatment not only improves the appearance of the nail but also protects the sensitive skin beneath from further injury. The reconstructed nail looks completely natural and requires no special aftercare. If desired, it can be polished with regular nail polish or gel polish.

Sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, part of the nail plate may be lost — most often as a result of mechanical injury. Toenails can also be significantly filed down during the treatment of conditions like fungal infections. After completing therapy, many people choose nail reconstruction to restore the healthy and aesthetic appearance of the nail.
The nail reconstruction procedure involves physically rebuilding the missing part of the nail plate using a specialized gel or acrylic material. Once the nail has been extended, a pedicure can be performed to further protect the nail and enhance its overall appearance.
Unfortunately, nail plate reconstruction cannot be performed if less than one-third of the natural nail remains. In such cases, it may be difficult to securely anchor the gel or acrylic material, which can compromise the stability and effectiveness of the treatment.
After the procedure, the podiatrist will advise you to immediately remove the reconstructed nail if any unusual symptoms appear — such as discoloration of the nail plate. The reconstructed part will grow out naturally along with your nail. After a few weeks, it should be fully removed.
